Karachi, January 31, 2024 – The Sindh Prisons and Corrections Service (SP&CS) proudly announces the launch of an online visitation appointment system application, a key component of the “Ameelio Connect” project, as a pilot for Central Prison and Correctional Facility Karachi. This initiative is generously funded by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) and implemented through Ameelio Technologies. This intervention marks a significant leap forward in enhancing communication between inmates and their families, ensures transparency in the system, and improves security.
Syed Munawwar Ali, Inspector General of SP&CS, underscored the importance and impact of the online visitation system during a press briefing. He highlighted its significance in facilitating visits for individuals from remote areas, enabling them to schedule visitation appointments online to see their incarcerated loved ones more conveniently. Furthermore, the online system alleviates the human resource requirements for registering visitors and simultaneously bolsters prison security by minimizing foot traffic.
Inspector General Ali expressed his gratitude for the crucial role of journalists in raising awareness about the new system, emphasizing their support for publicizing the new, innovative technology. The long partnership between SP&CS and INL showcases a commitment to modernizing prisons in Sindh and fostering positive connections between inmates and their families.
